When we, Muslims nowadays, talk about the Prophet Muhammad PBUH and the early followers of Islam we always proudly point out how these people were strong enough and brave enough to leave behind any deeply rooted traditions that Islam deemed false.

We always talk about how extremely difficult it must have been for them to just throw away everything they’ve been raised to do and that their fathers raised to do and their fathers before that.

Islam for them must have been a very alien concept. It came to disallow countless traditions deeply rooted into their culture. Among other things, Islam forbode female infanticide, idol worshiping and drinking, all of which were very widespread and accepted traditions at the time.
